Visitors say the South Hams district is good value for money.

The South Hams visitor survey reveals that 99 per cent of tourists who visit the district want to come back for more.

The survey also shows that more than three-quarters of South Hams visitors felt their holiday was good value for money.

Green issues are becoming a major factor in holiday planning according to the survey, with nearly 90 per cent of those surveyed wanting to make sure their trips do not damage the district's special environment.

The majority of visitors also want to make sure their visit benefits local people - they want the chance to eat local food and drink on their holiday.

A whopping 97 per cent said they thought the South Hams was well managed and cared for.

Regular visitor surveys are held to assess how effective tourism marketing campaigns have been, and the information gathered is used to provide a basis for future marketing strategies.

South Hams Council's executive member for tourism, Cllr Rosemary Rowe said: "These results are really heartening for all our local businesses, especially those pioneering our green tourism schemes."
