Young people in the South Hams are relishing the opportunity to compete in the Devon Youth Games next weekend with the number of youngsters taking part expected to reach an all time high.
Behind the scenes, a successful training programme for the selected representatives has been in full flow, preparing for the event which takes place at various venues in Plymouth on Saturday 28 June.
Now in their tenth year and with an emphasis on inclusion and participation, the Devon Youth Games are aimed at young people who do not already compete at a county or regional standard.
South Hams District Council has been working with the Community Sports Department based at Ivybridge Community College to put a team together.
All the events are aimed at young people aged between eight and 16 years old.
Cllr John Baverstock, member champion for children and young people, said: "I am confident that our youngsters will perform fantastically well and everyone will have fun during what promises to be a great day.
"The young people should be very proud of themselves for the hard work they have put in getting ready for the games, regardless of how far they go in the competition.
"Who knows, we may find some sporting stars for future and maybe even a budding Olympic champion. Good luck to all the young people taking part."
The sports competitions will be held at various venues in Plymouth as follows:
Brickfields Recreation Ground - Athletics, cricket, hockey, mini soccer, tag rugby and volleyball
University College Plymouth St Mark and St John - Aquathlon, gymnastics, futsal, netball, table tennis and street sports
Devonshire Health and Racquet Club - Tennis and badminton.
