Kingsbridge youngster Mark Ellis scored the only goal of the game as Torquay United edged out Kidderminster at Plainmoor.
The defender, who is on-loan from Bolton Wanderers, scored in first-half injury time with a rasping 12-yard strike to illuminate an otherwise dour game.
The Gulls dominated for large periods but failed to turn their dominance into more goals.
Roscoe D'Sane, Chris Zebroski, Tim Sills and Kaid Mohamed all missed good chances for the Devon-based club.
Torquay, who travel to local rivals Weymouth on Tuesday night, are now second in the Blue Square Premier, with 61 points from 28 games.
