Totnes MP Anthony Steen has attacked Gordon Brown's Labour party over its decision to close thousands of rural post offices.
Mr Steen knocked on the door of 10 Downing Street to present a petition to the Prime Minister calling for the Government to stop closing local post offices.
He was accompanied by Prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for central Devon Mel Stride.
Mr Stride collected more than 14,000 signatures from central and south Devon constituents who are opposed to further closures of post offices in the Westcountry.
"The Government continues to shut down a valuable lifeline for rural villages and unless post offices are freed from restrictive business practices and allowed to compete with commercial services such as DHL, then I fear more will be forced to close simply because the Government has tied their hands behind their backs," said Mr Steen.
This summer, around 100 branches in Devon and Cornwall are expected to close as almost one in five are pinpointed for the chop.
Next week, Mr Steen will get the first information about closures in the Totnes constituency, with the details officially made public on May 20.
