Conservative MP Anthony Steen has held his Totnes seat despite pressure from the Liberal Democrat candidate Mike Treleaven.

Mr Steen retained the seat he has held since 1983 but saw his majority reduced from 3,597 votes in 2001 to 1947 after winning 21,112 votes.

Kingsbridge businessman and community college governor Mike Treleaven posed the biggest threat, polling 19,165 votes.

But UKIP party leader Roger Knapman, polled only 3,914 votes in Totnes. The former Conservative MP for Stroud had been hoping that UKIP would tap into anti-EU feeling in the Totnes constituency.

Geoffrey Cox, who won Devon West from the Lib Dems, caused the only political upset in the county.

Elsewhere in Devon, fellow Tory Gary Streeter also kept his Devon South West seat while Angela Browning held Tiverton and Hugo Swire held Devon East.

Labour minister Ben Bradshaw held his Exeter, while Linda Gilroy and Alison Seabeck retained Plymouth Sutton and Devonport.

Liberal Democrats Adrian Sanders, Richard Younger-Ross and Nick Harvey held the Torbay, Teignbridge and Devon North seats.

Its a great shame that Mr Trevleven to did not get in. Steen has been in for to long now. I think we need a change.
