Happy-Go-Lucky stars Sally Hawkins

16th May 2008

Drama Happy-Go-Lucky (15) is being screened at the Reel Cinema, Kingsbridge, for a week from today.

Poppy, played by Sally Hawkins, is a young primary school teacher. A free spirit, she is open and generous - as funny and anarchic as she is focussed and responsible.

She has time for everybody, and whoever she meets falls in love with her. She loves the children she teaches, and works hard.

She shares a flat with a girlfriend, enjoys her social life, is caring towards her younger sisters, and takes flamenco and trampoline lessons.

When she starts driving lessons, her maturity and her sense of humour help her to deal with a manic instructor.

Comfortable with being single, she meets through work a guy with whom she really clicks.

Also screening is Columbia Pictures' action drama 21 (12A), a film inspired by the true story of the very brightest young minds in the country - and how they took Vegas for millions.

Ben Campbell, played by Jim Sturgess, is a shy, brilliant M.I.T. student who - needing to pay school tuition - finds the answers in the cards.

He is recruited to join a group of the school's most gifted students that heads to Vegas every weekend armed with fake identities and the know-how to turn the odds at blackjack in their favour.

With unorthodox maths professor and stats genius Micky Rosa, played by Kevin Spacey, leading the way, they've cracked the code.

By counting cards and employing an intricate system of signals, the team can beat the casinos big time.

Seduced by the money, the Vegas lifestyle, and by his smart and sexy teammate, Jill Taylor, played by Kate Bosworth, Ben begins to push the limits.

Though counting cards isn't illegal, the stakes are high, and the challenge becomes not only keeping the numbers straight, but staying one step ahead of the casinos' menacing enforcer, Cole Williams, played by Laurence Fishburne.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (12A) is also showing at the Reel.

The newest Indiana Jones adventure begins in the desert Southwest in 1957 - the height of the Cold War. Indy and his sidekick Mac, played by Ray Winstone, have barely escaped a close scrape with nefarious Soviet agents on a remote airfield.

Now, Professor Jones has returned home to Marshall College - only to find things have gone from bad to worse.

His close friend and dean of the college (Jim Broadbent) explains that Indy's recent activities have made him the object of suspicion, and that the government has put pressure on the university to fire him.

On his way out of town, Indiana meets rebellious young Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), who carries both a grudge and a proposition for the adventurous archaeologist: If he'll help Mutt on a mission with deeply personal stakes, Indy could very well make one of the most spectacular archaeological finds in history - the Crystal Skull of Akator, a legendary object of fascination, superstition and fear.
