Cake-making firm scoops top awards

17th August 2007

A South Hams cake-making business has scooped four top prizes at this year's 'Taste of the West' Food and Drink awards.

The Cottage Kitchen, which is based in Churchstow, near Kingsbridge, picked up two gold awards, one silver and a bronze.

Company owner Nicola Barlow said she was "thrilled" with the awards.

"I am thrilled with these results, especially since this is the first entry since moving into our new premises on South Hams Business Park.

"I am in no doubt that these results are due to the hard work and commitment of my wonderful staff."

The Cottage Kitchen, which employs seven staff, prides itself in making a large selection of handmade cakes, desserts and quiches using only fresh ingredients and no artificial additives or preservatives.

The Loddiswell-based firm won six gold awards.

Mike's Smokehouse is a family run business which offers a wide range of fine foods gently smoked over Manuka woodchips.
