Pupils at West Alvington Primary School are enjoying plush new facilities.
A £300,000 building project to re-model a South Hams primary school has taken it "from the Dark Ages to the 21st century" according to the headteacher.
The major developments at the Devon County Council-run West Alvington Primary School were officially opened on July 8.
The scheme has involved the total re-modelling and modernisation of the existing accommodation and a new extension providing a reception area, a staff room, head's office and administration area.
Headteacher Colin Butler said he and all the staff and pupils were delighted with the transformation of the school.
"This has taken us from the Dark Ages to the 21st century," he said.
"It has given the atmosphere of the school a new buzz of energy and dramatically improved the learning that is going on here."
Previously when people visited the school they had to go through the classrooms which disrupted lessons, said Mr Butler. That no longer happened and the children no longer had to use unpleasant, outside toilets.
"We look upon this project as a re-birth of this school, providing a bright new future for all the children and staff who are now benefiting from the new facilities and for those yet to come," he said.
The development will be officially opened by the vice chairman of Devon County Council, Nolan Clarke.
