Sharpitor (Overbecks Museum & Garden)

Elegant Edwardian house with diverse collections and luxuriant garden.
The scientist Otto Overbeck lived here from 1928 to 1937 and the Museum has the domestic atmosphere of a private house.
Among the items on show are late 19th-century photographs of the area, model ships, local shipbuilding tools and other nautical artefacts, toys, shells, stuffed animals and some of Overbeck’s inventions, including the ‘rejuvenator’.
The beautiful Mediterranean-style garden, with spectacular views over the Salcombe estuary, enjoys a warm microclimate and so is home to many rare plants, trees and shrubs.
