Harbour House is the venue for a special summer fair, featuring contemporary creations by some of the region's best designers working in textiles, glass and basketry.
The Contemporary Living Fair opens for six days from Tuesday 12 August at the gallery on The Promenade in Kingsbridge, and showcases the work of five artists and makers whose work has already been shown in exhibitions, galleries and boutiques across the Westcountry.
Inka Gabriel has become well known across the South West for her elegant glass lamps, in opaque white glass and embellished with crystals, shells or pebbles, contrasting clean, simple lines of glass with organic shapes and textured wood.
In contrast, Penny Carter's focus is on art glass to wear, with a delightful range of glass jewellery in a vibrant palette created by overlaying transparent and opaque colour, and by slicing and polishing into the layers to form windows which let in the light.
Victoria Benns produces playful portraits of the farm animals that she sees around her South Devon studio. Her mixed media paintings capture a vibrant and humorous glimpse of her animal subjects, in a direct, confident and warm style.
Victoria Lammie, formerly a senior designer of ladieswear for some of the UK's largest high street retailers, indulges her passion for handbags and accessories by designing and producing her unique designs at her Salcombe studio. Each piece is created using an individual combination of vintage and contemporary textiles.
Angela Holland's baskets encompass both the traditional and the experimental, with a strong emphasis on functionality and the beauty of practical designs and natural forms. In contrast, her decorative sculptures, which have been used at Glastonbury. Megadog and the Big Green Gathering festivals for processions and site decoration, consist mainly of open willow structures and lanterns clad in colourful paper and illuminated from the inside.
Angela's live willow works have a life of their own, planted as arbors, bowers, domes and fences in gardens and public spaces in the Westcountry, and allowed to grow and evolve with the passing of the seasons.
The Contemporary Living Fair opens at Harbour House in Kingsbridge on Tuesday 12 August. Opening times are 10am - 5pm daily, until the close of the show on Sunday 17 August. Admission is free.
