The Alvington Singers come to Kingsbridge this weekend to present a concert of music by English composers.
The chamber choir will perform alongside a choir of Key Stage Two pupils from Kingsbridge Primary School at St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Dodbrooke, on Friday 25th April.
The two choirs will join together to sing John Rutter's "Feel The Spirit"- a cycle of spirituals including a rousing setting of the well known "When The Saints Go Marching In". The children will also sing some of their own songs. The concert will include other works by Vaughan Williams, Grieg, Holst and Finzi, sung by the Alvington Singers.
Anne Dooley of the Alvington Singers said: "Both the children and the Alvington Singers have been practising hard all term, and we look forward to singing together. The Alvington Singers have forged good links with the school, which has a thriving music department and is keen to include us in their musical events."
The choir is keen to promote young performers and frequently invites local schoolchildren to take part.
"It is always a pleasure to sing with young voices, providing an opportunity for sharing some wonderful musical moments" said Mrs Dooley. "These young singers will hopefully go on to enjoy a lifetime of singing with others."
Tickets for the performance on Friday 25th April are £5 and free for children under 16. Starts 7pm. The concert is supporting the children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent. Call 01548 531252 for more information.
