Harbour House in Kingsbridge has invited local artists to respond to the themes of calmness and serenity, and now invites the public to come and see the results.

The Open Art Exhibition, entitled Calm and Serene, runs over the busy Easter and school holiday period, from Thursday 20 March until Saturday 12 April.

As well as being a thriving centre for the arts, Harbour House is also known as a centre for yoga, meditation and t'ai chi, and the organisers are hoping that this exhibition will reinforce the link between the different disciplines that co-exist under the same roof.

Harbour House Arts Co-ordinator Alison Veazey says: "Open art exhibitions are a great opportunity for local artists, both new and established, to show their work in a gallery setting. Calm and Serene is going to be a lovely exhibition to welcome in the spring!

"For artists as yet unaware of this exhibition opportunity, there's still time to find out more from www.harbourhouse.org.uk, or by picking up an entry leaflet from the foyer at Harbour House.

"Works of art can be on any subject, as long as the work conveys a mood or feeling of calmness or serenity."

The exhibition will be opened formally by local author Michael Elsmere on Wednesday 19 March. The opening event runs from 6-8pm, and Michael will speak at 6.30pm.

Torbay artist Emma Carter is the guest speaker for a gallery talk and discussion on Thursday 20 March at 11am.

Emma will reflect upon selected works from the exhibition in this informal event. Everybody is welcome, and admission is free.
